About ACCHOS
In 1998, the Atlantic City Convention Hall Organ Society was registered in Maryland as a Corporation and granted tax-exempt (non-profit) status by the IRS as described in section 501(c)(3). Money raised though membership, sales, etc. is used to further the Society's aims (see next paragraph) and for general purposes, e.g. publishing costs, feasibility studies (for books, CDs), website charges, postal costs, etc.
The Society's aims include promoting the organs in Boardwalk Hall and broadening interest in them. This is to be done through a periodical journal for members, through newspaper/magazine articles, this website, and recordings, both audio and video. Other objectives include encouraging on-going maintenance of the instruments and assisting fund-raising efforts at private, local, state, federal, and international levels. The ultimate objective being restoration of the instruments to full working order, thereby preserving them for future generations to see, hear, play, and enjoy.
There can be little doubt that many of these goals are on the way to being met, as the Society has overseen the publication of two major books and the production two CDs, as well as the release of a DVD (details of these products, and more, can be found in the Store section). As a result, Boardwalk Hall's organs have received more publicity, interest, and attention in the last decade than in the previous 70 years!
However, there is no complacency among the Society's Directors, Advocates, or members. The work goes on but it can only continue if the worldwide fascination with these unique instruments can be amply demonstrated to the authorities that have dominion over them. Please see the Membership page and consider joining ACCHOS.
