WHAT ARE "SEPARATION" AND "PIZZICATO" COUPLERS?
Separation Coupler is another name for the Unison Off. When used in conjunction with a Super Octave and/or Sub Octave coupler, the unison note is silenced - leaving only the notes sounded by the Super/Sub coupler(s). The device can be used, for example, to create an 8-foot voice from a 16-foot register, i.e. by drawing the 16-foot with the Octave and Separation. In effect, this 'transposes' the stop up 12 notes. |
Pizzicato Couplers attempt to imitate the sound of the orchestra's stringed instruments being plucked. The is achieved by a special mechanism that cuts-off the wind supply almost as soon as the pipes have spoken, even though the manual keys may still be depressed. |
