Eventide, the tune for the hymn ABIDE WITH ME – Cliffton Stround II
[mp3 format, 3.01MB]
This track is available on the 1998 recording The Auditorium Organ. The stops were operated by Stephen Smith who, over the course of four verses, piled on just about everything that was working – including the 100-inch Tuba Imperial (but excluding the even louder Grand Ophicleide). Despite some missing notes, an unreliable stop action, and poor tuning, there wasn't a dry eye in the house at the conclusion.
Conclusion of Liszt's AD NOS AD SALUTAREM UNDAM – Stephen D. Smith
[mp3 format, 2.41MB]
This track is available on the 1998 recording The Auditorium Organ. Listen out for the Grand Ophicleide on the last chord!
Bach's TOCCATA IN D MINOR BWV565 – Antoni Scott
[mp3 format, 2.69MB]
This is one of the several versions of Bach's most famous organ work that Antoni made during the recording sessions in 1998. It's a "high octane" rendition – compared to the one used for the CD – but the registrations aren't too bombastic.
PSALM 100 – Antoni Scott
[mp3 format, 2.9MB]
This short and enchanting piece consists of three verses which are heard, on this track, in the following order: 1-2-3-2-3 (the straightforward 1-2-3 version is on the CD). Verse 1 features the Great-Solo's Orchestral Oboe. Verse 2 is played on Principals. Verse 3 is for the reeds and mixtures.
RIGHT STAGE CHAMBER BLOWERS – starting-up and shuting-down
[mp3 format, 2.41MB]
This track (which is similar to track 1 on the 1998 CD) gives the listener an idea of just how powerful these blowers are. Firstly, the 100-inch compressor is started, followed by the low pressure blower, then the high pressure. Once they're up-to-speed, they're sequentially shut down. Dennis McGurk, the Organ Curator at the time, is heard asking "Ready on the right?", etc. at the start of the track.
THE BALLROOM KIMBALL – Tim Hoag
[mp3 format, 2.41MB]
Excerpt from a short test recording made in 1998.
